RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. RSS allows you to use a program called an "RSS Reader" to automatically check blogs and other web sites for new content so you don't have to - this can save you a lot of time.
Subscribing to RSS allows you to keep up with my blog without having to come to this site to check for updates. Your RSS reader will automatically check for updates and display them for you if I have added any new content.
This is really powerful - it allows you keep up with many more blogs and other sites than you would be able to if you had to check each one individually. RSS is perfect for blogs (like mine) that aren't updated every day.
One of the easiest ways to get going with RSS is to get set up with Google Reader. Once you have a Google Reader account set up, just look for the RSS icon on your favorite blogs or sites. It usually looks something like this:

Sometimes it will be smaller. It's usually orange, but some sites may use a different color.
Clicking the RSS icon will give you the option to subscribe to that site's feed.
Some sites have more than one RSS feed for different types of content.
Enjoy!
